Building the Future of Joplin Schools: Eagle Bond 2026

How does Eagle Bond 2026 help Cecil Floyd Elementary?

Dear Families and Community Members, A dark-haired man smiles for a school photo, wearing a tie and button up shirt.

Our school has been a place of learning, care, and connection for many years. Originally built in 1985, with additions and renovations completed in 2006, 2011, and the construction of our community safe room in 2014, the building has grown alongside the students and families it serves. Inside these walls, incredible teachers and support staff do remarkable work every day, creating welcoming classrooms and meaningful learning experiences with the space and tools they have. We are also deeply grateful for our parents and community partners, whose support and involvement make our school stronger. As time passes, even well cared for schools, much like well loved homes, reach points where updates are needed to continue serving people well.

The proposed bond issue would allow us to make thoughtful improvements that directly support student learning, health, and safety. Interior and classroom renovations would update the nurse’s office and restroom, the library and cafeteria, and several student restrooms, including adding restrooms to kindergarten and four year old classrooms and improving a special education restroom. New finishes in corridors and classrooms, along with window replacements, would refresh learning spaces and improve comfort and efficiency throughout the building. These updates are about making sure our students and staff have spaces that match the quality of the teaching and care happening here every day.

The plan also includes important parking and traffic improvements, such as better site circulation, expanded and accessible parking, and added pedestrian and bike safety features to better serve our neighborhood. This work would happen alongside similar updates at six other older elementary schools across the district. The goal is simple and important: to ensure that every elementary school offers safe, functional, and inspiring spaces so students have the same excellent opportunities, regardless of the age of the building they attend. We are proud of our school’s past and deeply committed to its future, and these improvements would help ensure it continues to serve children and families well for many years to come.

I want to mention a special thank you to the Long Range Facility Committee, who toured every building in the district in order to prioritize the needs of our students and staff. We appreciate the time you volunteered to this effort, and the care with which you helped inform the proposed work.

Thank you for supporting Cecil Floyd!
